5 Spooky Christian Things not to do on Halloween

For some reason Halloween is such a controversial holiday in some Christian circles. Personally, I think this should be the most celebrated holiday.

Honestly, what other day of the year do your neighbors come and knock on your door? What a great opportunity to meet people in your community and be real friendly. The key to this is: DON’T BE SPOOKY.

By this I mean, don’t be a weird Christian, just be nice, and be yourself. To help you with this, I have composed this handy list of 5 spooky Christian things not to do on Halloween.

1) Handing out tracts of why Halloween is evil instead of handing out candy.
Not  only is this lame, and a good way to turn your neighbors off to the message of the gospel, but it is a great way to get your house egged and TP’d

2) Dressing up like angels and Jesus and greeting your neighbors with a holy kiss.
This will likely traumatize children, or get you arrested.

3) Locking your doors, turning out the lights, and hiding in the basement.
Actually, if you were planning on doing number 1 or 2 this might not be a bad idea. But seriously, you will be missing out on actual socialization and human interaction.

4) Hand out candy to all of the princesses and fairies, but denying the devils, demons, and disney characters.
It’s generally a good idea to be nice to ALL of your neighbors, even the ones that are different.

5) Carve a Jesus fish eating a Darwin fish into a pumpkin.
If you want your neighbors kids to smash your pumpkin then you should do this.

I had an idea today, if you are a pastor or creative marketing guru for your church, what if you produced some sort of small card with an invite to your church/children’s ministry (these would obviously have to be done well) give them to your members and encouraged them not to hide in thier house, but give out candy, be real friendly, and give out these invites. It might not hurt to tell them to pony up for some good candy if they are able!

As a new homeowner, I am looking forward to handing out candy on Halloween with my wife. My goal is to be known as the house with the awesome candy.

Jesus is __________ .

I have always been a huge fan of the power of simplicity. Sometimes stripping a concept down to the core can be the most effective way to communicate a message.

At one point Jesus simply asked his inner circle “Who do you say that I am?” he even clarified and explained that he wanted them to answer this question personally, he didn’t want them to rehearse things they heard around town. one of them (Peter) answered “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God”

Jesus declared that it was on there very concept he would establish the Church.

Sometimes we need to shut out all other outside influences and answer the question: Who is Jesus?

I am so excited about what The City Church has launched in order to pose this question to their community. Thier website, http://jesus-is.org , asks everyone the question: Who do you say that Jesus is? They then post the answers for everyone to see. It is powerful, encouraging, and a breadth of fresh air.

Who do you say that Jesus is?

Holmes Vision

Ok so I may be a little late to the party on this. I just saw the new Sherlock Holmes on blue ray last night. It was such a great film.

This remake of the classic detective series was directed by Guy Ritchie. I have been a huge fan of him ever since Snatch. My favorite part of the movie were these super slow motion sequences called “Holmes Vision” where they portrayed Holmes thought process during fight scenes (check 1:09 of the trailer for a peak).

Typically movies are filmed at 24 frames per second. However, to capture “Holmes Vision” they used a super high speed camera called a phantom, and filmed at speeds of 3,000 frames per second, and slowed the footage down to get the slow motion effect. This process is called overcranking. I usually overcrank at a measly 60 fps like the footage in the beginning of  this video I shot for my friend Chris Davis.

What is some of your favorite slow motion footage?
